How to Counter McGinnis in Deadlock (2026)

Last updated: June 3, 2026

Pushing into a McGinnis turret nest is one of the most miserable experiences in the game — chip damage everywhere, a wall in your face, and a heal beacon keeping her topped up. But she's immobile and her power is glued to one spot, which is exactly how you beat her. Here's the counter playbook from deadlock.io data and the wiki.

Quick answer: Don't fight inside her turret zone, shut down her healing with anti-heal (Decay/Healbane), stack Spirit Resilience, interrupt Heavy Barrage with Knockdown, and gank her when she roams — she's a terrible roamer.

Counter items

ItemWhy
Decay DecayCuts her Medicinal Specter healing ~50% — the single best answer to her sustain.
Healbane HealbaneA cheaper, earlier anti-heal for the same job.
Spirit Resilience Spirit ResilienceHer turrets and ult deal spirit damage — spirit resist guts the zone DPS.
Knockdown KnockdownInterrupts her Heavy Barrage ult (she's immobile, so it lands easily).
⚠ Myth-buster: Monster Rounds does NOT counter her turrets. Its bonus-vs-NPC damage doesn't apply to Mini Turrets — your normal gun and melee already kill them fine, so spend that slot on resist or anti-heal instead.

Positioning & counter-picks

  • Don't fight in the zone — bait her turrets out or force the fight on open ground.
  • Kill the turrets (melee is very effective), then collapse — without them her control evaporates.
  • Out-rotate her: she can't roam, so pressure another lane and gank her when she leaves her fort.
  • Counter-picks: Seven Seven (her hardest counter — LoS-agnostic AoE), Infernus Infernus and Calico Calico (mobile DoT that ignores the zone).
🎮 Dota 2 players: she's a stationary zoner like Tinker/Techies — you don't brawl her setup, you anti-heal the sustain, out-rotate the immobility, and interrupt the channeled ult.
